Rick is responsible for much of what we know about the internal micro-circulatory system in the lens. He uses a biophysicist's approach to study the uniquely specialized cell-cell interactions that underpin lens transparency. His lab developed a way to measure intracellular hydrostatic pressure in the lens cells. We are using this technique to study the role of TRPV4 and TRPV1.
