Alan studies the genetic mechanisms that underlie pediatric and age-related cataract. He discovered several novel cataract genes, one being TRPM3. A mutation in TRPM3 is linked to a form of inherited human cataract and glaucoma. Together, we hope to better understand the functional role of TRPM3 in the lens.
